Auckland and the beautiful Bay of Islands

We arrived in Auckland and were picked up at the airport by the lovely Sonia whose home we were invading for a few days! Once back at her house, we started planning our three weeks in New Zealand!

After a couple of hours (and beers…), we had a plan! The next day we all headed out on a mini sightseeing trip around Auckland. Our first stop was Mission bay, where we had an epic brunch! As well as gorging ourselves on breakfast, we wandered along the beach for a bit. The island in the distance is called Rangitoto island.

Then we headed to One Tree Hill, which actually doesn’t have a tree on it anymore..but it did have amazing views over the city.

Sonia and her husband Pete kindly offered to lend us their car for a couple of days so that we could see a bit more of the North island so we packed up the car with supplies and made our way to the Bay of Islands. It was a beautiful drive up there! The landscapes here are incredible! When we arrived, we had an explore and booked a boat trip for the following day.

That evening we sat out by the lake and drank, it was gorgeous and so peaceful!

The next morning, we headed out on a boat trip around the islands, in the hope of seeing dolphins!

It was a bit of a grey day… But we saw them!!!

It was amazing to see them in their natural habitat! Afterwards, we headed to the hole in the rock… Which was, as the name suggests…

The following day, we drove back down to Auckland. The next stage of our plan was to fly to Christchurch and meet up with some of my parents’ friends who live near there so the next day, we headed south!
