Auckland again, then a few days in beautiful Fiji!

We had initially booked ten nights in Fiji but the day before we were due to fly out, we found out that there was major flooding and a cyclone hit Nadi (pronounced “Nandi”) which was where we were staying… so we decided to push our flight back by a few days to let it all calm down – this also meant that we had a few more days in New Zealand! Win!

So, with a few more days to spare, we went on a mini road trip to Piha with Kerry, via a baker’s to pick up a traditional Kiwi mince and cheese pie for lunch! On our way we stopped at Arataki visitor centre in the Waitakere ranges, which was really interesting and there were some amazing views!

There are lots of these big frames around with great views in the background too! Posers…

Then we made our way to Piha. When we got to the beach, the tide was really far out but the landscape was amazing! It was a black sand beach, which gets really hot when the sun is out… It wasn’t too bad when we were there though. Apparently there is a really strong rip tide here and after our near-drowning in Langkawi, we weren’t taking any chances… We had a paddle but it was quite cold.

The next day, we all went to meet Sonia at the port. Sonia volunteers every year to help out on the Spirit of New Zealand, which is a huge glorious ship and they take a group of disabled children out for a week on the boat. It’s an amazing opportunity for the kids and we went down early and had breakfast overlooking the port.

Isn’t it a beautiful boat?! We went aboard for a look round when everyone had left…

The next day we went to the beach in Shakespear nature reserve! It was a bit surreal to see Auckland city in the distance! The tide was out but it was lovely to have a picnic and ice cream in the sunshine!

Would you believe it, we found another frame…

So, unfortunately our extended time in New Zealand came to an end but we both absolutely loved it! We were sad to leave but excited about Fiji!

We arrived in Fiji at about 4pm and were immediately hit by the humidity. We hadn’t been in this kind of heat since Asia! Our hostel was right on the beach, it was beautiful!

Most of the days we just sunbathed, making the most of the sunshine, which once back in England, we are unlikely to see for some time…

But we did a day trip to South Sea island on one of the days, which was beautiful. White coral beach, turquoise waters, a group of Fijian singers welcoming us to the island! Amazing!

image

During our time on the island, we went out to a submarine boat thing ….which was really cool except there were some brats behind us who decided to shout out everything they saw… everything!!!

After the submarine type experience, we sunbathed for a bit before lunch. When we ate, there was a traditional Fijian dance/music show, which was really nice!

So we had a great time in Fiji but both decided that if we go back, we will stay in a fancy resort…
