Review: La Cigale French Market, Auckland

J’adore French markets and well, most things French so when I found out that there was a weekly French market in Auckland, I had to go!

Voted Auckland’s Best Food Market for the last 8 years, La Cigale French Market is held every Saturday from 8am to 1.30pm and Sunday from 9am to 1.30pm. Needless to say, I was pretty excited to visit the market today.

I was really impressed! My first stop was the Gravity coffee stall for a large (delicious) flat white and when I started a slow meander around the stalls, a charming Frenchman offered me a sample of a salted caramel mille-feuille. Yes, a thousand times yes. Off to a great start.

From fresh veg to paella to “inject your own delicious filling doughnuts”, cheese, bread, dumplings, sausages, olives, pastries, croque-monsieur in huge batches…this is a fantastic market. A slice of France in New Zealand.

I devoured a blueberry pastry before picking up some cheeses, a small baguette and some fresh fruit and vegetables. Very pleased to have discovered this market, can’t wait to go again!
